HOUSE DOWN LUTZ DESIGN
Design begins with the person who lives there.
Design begins with the person who lives there.
Design begins with the person who lives there.
House Down Lutz Design is a Philadelphia-based interior design practice built around a simple idea: the most meaningful spaces aren’t designed around a look. They’re shaped around the people who inhabit them.

The room should feel like you. Not like us.

OUR PHILOSOPHY
A space doesn’t begin with a style. It begins with a life.
A space doesn’t begin with a style. It begins with a life.
A space doesn’t begin with a style. It begins with a life.

We pay attention to what is already there—the architecture, the light, the objects you love, the way you move through a room, and the life that happens inside it.

Good design brings those things into conversation. It doesn’t impose a signature. It finds the character already present and gives it greater clarity.

The goal isn’t a room that looks designed. It’s one that feels inevitable.

BEHIND THE STUDIO
I was designing spaces long before I thought to call it design.

House Down Lutz Design grew from years of living with spaces—renovating them, collecting for them, rearranging them, and paying attention to why some rooms simply feel right.

My path to design wasn’t conventional. My career was built around understanding complex systems, how people experience them, and how seemingly separate parts work together. Somewhere along the way, I realized I had been applying much of the same instinct at home: seeing relationships, removing what doesn’t belong, and bringing disparate elements into coherence.

HDL gives that instinct a home. It’s a practice built around curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that good design shouldn’t make you live differently just to accommodate the room. The room should work harder for you.

HOW WE WORK
We start by paying attention.
We start by paying attention.
We start by paying attention.
LISTEN
You don’t need to arrive with the answer.
You don’t need to arrive with the answer.
Tell us what you love. What frustrates you. What you want to keep. How you use the room. Even what you can’t quite put into words yet. That’s enough to begin.
NOTICE
The space usually tells us something, too.
The space usually tells us something, too.
Architecture, proportion, light, movement, views, and the things already worth keeping all give us clues. We look for what’s working before deciding what needs to change.
CONNECT
Then we bring the pieces into conversation.
Then we bring the pieces into conversation.
Function and feeling. Old and new. Restraint and personality. Things that seemingly shouldn’t belong together often become the reason a room feels entirely your own.
START WHERE YOU ARE
Bring us the room you can’t quite figure out.
Bring us the room you can’t quite figure out.
Bring us the room you can’t quite figure out.
The awkward room. The almost-right room. The room you’ve stopped seeing. The one you can’t stop thinking about. Start there.
