HOUSE DOWN LUTZ DESIGN / SELECTED WORK
Outer Banks, North Carolina

THE KITCHEN TRANSFORMATION
The kitchen became the home’s natural center—a place for the ordinary rhythms of the day and for gathering when everyone is together. We considered how it opens to the living and dining areas, how people move through it, and how the coast remains part of the experience. The blue island gives the room a confident focal point without asking the rest of the house to follow a formula.

DESIGN THROUGHOUT THE HOME
Beyond the kitchen, the choices become more varied: blue tile, quieter stone, warm wood, and the familiar color and texture of a bedroom lived in. The rooms don’t need to match to feel connected.

PROJECT NARRATIVE
The clients already knew what they loved about coastal living. The work began with that understanding, not with a style to impose. I developed layouts for the rooms and helped them think through how each space could work for the people using it.
Together, we worked through finishes, materials, color, pattern, and texture—keeping the familiar elements that felt right while making space for combinations they might not have tried on their own. The result is personal to this home and the way they live in it.
